A nova cédula tem o mesmo tamanho da nota de 20 reais da Segunda Família, e suas cores predominantes são cinza e sépia. Ela possui elementos de segurança que também estão em outras denominações e já são conhecidos pela população, como o número que muda de cor e a marca-d'água.

Em 2020, serão impressas 450 milhões de cédulas de 200 reais. As novas notas serão colocadas em circulação por intermédio da rede bancária, e a distribuição vai ocorrer de acordo com a demanda.
